Secretariat

Hafiz Dhanani | Secretary General | sg@vmun.com

A high school Senior, Hafiz has a passion for Political Science, International Relations, and Comparative Politics. In his third year on the organizational side of VMUN, Hafiz hopes to lead the conference to a successful eleventh session. Hafiz’s vision for this year’s conference includes extensive delegate training in the months leading up to the conference, improved staff training, and a wider spectrum of delegates with regards to geographic and economic diversity. Outside of MUN, Hafiz’s interests include entrepreneurship, online marketing, and rowing. He would like to wish delegates all the best with their preparations and emphasize that the more they put into VMUN the more rewarding their experience will be.

Yeoman Liang | Director General | dg@vmun.com

Yeoman is currently a Grade 12 student at St. George’s School and has the honor to serve as the Director-General for VMUN 2012. He was coerced into the MUN world in 2009, when his friend dragged him to New York for his first conference. Since then, roles have been reversed, and it is now often Yeoman who nags his classmates and friends to come out and participate at MUN’s across the lower mainland. Friendly and outgoing, Yeoman is more than happy to answer any questions that may arise before, during and after the conference in January, and greatly looks forward to meeting all the new and returning delegates this year.

Alex Lin | Conference Director | cd@vmun.com

Alex is a senior at St. George’s School. He has been involved in many Model United Nations conferences, participating both as a delegate and as committee staff. In his free time, Alex enjoys playing and teaching the violin, tossing a frisbee with his friends, and writing short stories. If his reprehensible habit of putting misplaced modifiers in his writing will allow, Alex hopes to publish his book in early 2012. Vehemently excited to serve as the Conference Director for VMUN 2012, Alex looks forward to connecting with old and new delegates.

Zach Hauser | Chief of Staff / USG Committees 1 | usgcommittees@vmun.com

Zach Hauser has been an avid MUNer since his first conference—in seventh grade—and he’s been to far too many conferences since. He doesn’t wish to bore you with a host of acronymic codes indicating the various places he’s been, but it would certainly be appropriate to give a nod to VMUN, his “base camp” conference that he’ll be attending for the fifth year running. As Chief of Staff and USG Committees 1 for VMUN 2012, Zach can report that no less than forty excellent staff members and nine diverse committees will deliver VMUN’s best conference yet.

Amelia Casey | USG Committees 2 | committees2@vmun.com

Amelia is a Grade 12 student at Little Flower Academy. She has been involved in Model UN since Grade 10 and has been a leader of the LFA Model UN club in the past. She has attended various national and international conferences that heightened her interest for MUN greatly. Since this is her first time participating at VMUN, she is excited to help make VMUN 2012 a memorable and stimulating conference. As USG Committees 2, she looks forward to watching the delegates in action during committee sessions. When she isn’t on a soccer or field hockey field, you can find her involved in her school’s student government or exploring the world of music. Amelia wishes all delegates the best of luck at the conference!

Stuart Warren | USG Delegate Affairs | delegates@vmun.com

Stuart is a Grade 11 student at St. George’s who has been involved in MUN since grade eight. As USG Delegate Affairs for VMUN 2012 he hopes that every delegate’s experience at the conference will be a fun and memorable one, and looks forward to seeing the delegates in action during committee sessions. Some of Stuart’s interests outside of MUN include debating, public speaking and drama; music, videogames, and some people.

David Choi | USG IT | it@vmun.com

David Choi is a Grade 12 student at St. George’s school. He has been involved in MUN since grade 8 over the course of a variety of conferences. Aside from MUN, David also enjoys playing video games, playing Go, computer programming, and trivia. As both USG IT and Director of DISEC, he hopes to make this year’s conference especially enjoyable for everyone!

Johnny Brynelsen | USG Marketing | usgmarketing@vmun.com

Johnny Brynelsen is a Grade 12 student at Shawnigan Lake School. He has attended the school for four years, and has just begun his fifth. Johnny’s passion for Model UN began in Grade 7 when he attended VYMUN for the first time. After that first conference, the hook was sunk and Johnny was addicted. After completing over a dozen MUNs, he spent his Grade 11 year preparing and working for VMUN as a Assistant Director for the Security Council. This year, he has undertaken (with Jennifer Yoon) the massive task of marketing for VMUN2012. He is beyond excited for VMUN2012 and can not wait to see all the returning faces, new faces and a larger international crowd. When Johnny isn’t working on VMUN or School, he’ll be found downhill biking, skiing, working on obtaining his Paramedics Licence, or just kickin’ it with friends. If you have any questions, concerns or requests related to marketing, feel free to contact him immediately. As a final note, Johnny wishes all the VMUN2012 delegates good luck and best wishes for the upcoming conference.

Jennifer Yoon | USG Marketing 2 | marketing@vmun.com

Jennifer is a Grade 11 student at Lord Byng Secondary School, and she is more than happy to be USG Marketing for VMUN this year. Though this is her first year at VMUN she is determined to help VMUN 2012 become a success. She is certain that she will thoroughly enjoy her first experience at VMUN. When not ripping through stumbleupon, she has a passion for performing, watching, and reading theatre, loves to work in student government, and is an avid supporter of LGBT rights. Jennifer hopes that every delegate will become more confident through debating and walk out of VMUN having learnt more!

Azzra Mangalji | USG Sponsorship | sponsorship@vmun.com

Azzra Mangalji is a Grade 12 student at York House School. She has been an active member of her school’s Model UN program for two years now. Her avid interest in world affairs and global issues has heightened her interest in Model UN and compelled her to get more involved. Although this is her first time being a part of VMUN, she has unwavering faith in the conference and its success. Azzra’s devotion to community service has taught her the importance of global knowledge, which is why she is immensely excited to see the extraordinary level of debate the VMUN 2012 Delegates will present! She would like to wish all the delegates the best of luck for the upcoming conference.
