Berlin Question, 1961

INTEL is a unique crisis committee with distinctive mechanics characterized by diplomacy and sabotage. The committee consists of two types of delegates: government delegates drive diplomacy, while another class—those representing intelligence agencies—can run an underground network of spies and resources free from government influence. If they choose, intelligence delegates can sabotage or aid government operations, both domestic and abroad, while governments negotiate events in the public eye. INTEL includes ten countries, each with one government delegate and one intelligence delegate. As the conflict progresses and crises arise, intelligence agencies will have to work in the shadows to create favourable—or unfavourable—conditions for their respective governments. Meanwhile, governments will be tasked with maintaining the global order and keeping tensions at bay while exerting their own influence worldwide.

As a continuous crisis committee, the Intelligence Crisis Committee is most appropriate for experienced delegates. Position papers are mandatory and must be submitted by January 22nd, 2027, at 23:59 PT. More information about position papers specific to this committee can be found on page 3 of the Background Guide.

Hassan Jina

Hassan Jina | Director

Currently a Grade 11 student at Vancouver College, Hassan is honored to serve as the Director for INTEL at VMUN 2027. His journey began four years ago when he tumbled into the world of Model UN and discovered a wonderful community of like-minded individuals who were committed to solving international issues. Since then, Hassan has been actively involved in the intellectually stimulating world of Model United Nations, and has become enamoured with the conference experience, whether sessions of fierce debate during moderated caucus, bloc building during unmods, or taking quick lunch breaks at Chipotle. He cherishes the passionate discussions with fellow delegates, the innumerable friendships he has cultivated, and the satisfaction of witnessing his ideas materialize into impactful resolutions. Outside the conference halls, Hassan takes pleasure in the outdoors and piano. At VMUN 2027, he eagerly anticipates a weekend filled with groundbreaking solutions, unforgettable debate, and abundant laughter.

Serena Zhang

Serena Zhang | Chair

As a Grade 10 student at Crofton House School, Serena is beyond excited to serve as Chair for Intel at VMUN 2027! Ever since stumbling into her first conference, she has grown to cherish the packed elevators, long committee sessions and running down hundreds of stairs with her suitcase. She quickly realized her love of crisis committees, which is now where you can find her in most conferences. Outside of committee sessions, Serena can be found at a nearby Heytea or mixing up a new smoothie with her Ninja Blast Portable blender while scouring the internet for a new movie to watch. She hopes that this year’s iteration of VMUN will be one filled with new friendships and fruitful debate! Serena looks forward to meeting everyone and for a great weekend of diplomacy!

Aziz Bal

Aziz Bal | Assistant Director

Entering his senior year at Fraser Heights Secondary, Aziz is thrilled to be the Assistant Director of INTEL at this year’s VMUN 2027 Conference. Beginning his mun journey four years ago now, Aziz quickly fell in love with the intimate diplomacy and professional settings which mun offered. Over the years, he has ultimately come to understand one incredibly important and memorable thing: “that it is not about the name of a country, diplomat, or fictional character on a placard, but rather, it is about the hand which is confident enough to raise it”. He is truly thrilled to meet all delegates who are steadfast in proposing solutions, debating, and collaborating; as he simply cannot wait to be shocked and appalled indefinitely!

You can contact the Director at intel@vmun.com. Any questions regarding the committee or its debate procedures will be answered by email. Position papers must also be submitted to this address.
