In this committee, delegates will be representing members of the Council of People’s Commissars. Set in 1917, delegates are tasked with overthrowing the Provisional Government and denying reactionary, foreign involvement while still engaged against the German Empire in the First World War. Participation in this committee requires a large degree of role-play and devotion to one’s role; delegates will be immersed in the conflict, strife, and strategic manoeuvring of the period as they try to bring Socialism to Russia.
As a continuous crisis committee, The Council of People’s Commissars is most appropriate for experienced delegates. Position papers are mandatory and must be submitted by Sunday, January 7, 2018, at 23:59. Peter Jiang | Director
Peter Jiang is a senior in Semiahmoo Secondary’s International Baccalaureate program and with his passion for Model UN, comes his passion for Russian history. A lover of European conflicts and the Russian Tsardom, he’s happy to be the Director of the Council of People’s Commissars. You can often find Peter playing trombone, cooking, and escaping his surly earthen problems and flying away in light aircraft. VMUN 2018 is sure to bring intense debate, new friendships, and an all-around amazing adventure for all students. Peter is happy to be apart of this journey, and looks forward to uniting the workers of the world under the glorious banner of Bolshevism!
Kevin Zhu | Chair
Kevin Zhu is a senior at Semiahmoo Secondary school, where he is tackling his second year of the International Baccalaureatte Programme. Kevin was first immersed in the Model UN experience in Grade 9, and has been in love with it ever since. Through Model UN, Kevin has been able to learn more about global issues, international relations, crisis management, and public speaking but he values the friendships he’s made the most. When he isn’t doing photography, Kevin is often eating, sleeping, or browsing Spotify in search of some new lofi hip hop. Kevin is absolutely ecstatic to Chair in the Advanced Crisis Committee and can’t wait to meet all of his delegates.
Tessa Furey | Crisis Staff
Tessa Furey is currently a grade 10 attending Whistler Secondary School and is honoured to be serving as your Crisis Staff at VMUN 2018. She started her journey in MUN as a tiny (and terrified) grade eight and knows how difficult it was to speak up. Over her years of MUN, she’s found the reality behind success: caffeine and power naps. Outside of MUN, Tessa enjoys buying books and then forgetting to read them and spending more time arguing about politics. She looks forward to meeting all delegates and hopes that she can make the committee a success.
