Delegate registration for VMUN 2022 is now open!

World Bank

Based in Washington, D.C, the World Bank is the world’s largest development bank. It supplies loans to developing countries, focusing its efforts on agriculture, urban development, environmental protection, and governance. It works with countries to develop realistic debt-repayment plans as it strives to end poverty and build shared prosperity. Delegates in this mid-sized committee will question the balance of money and power, working to combat poverty and corruption in our world’s peripheral countries.

This committee is designed for both beginners and experienced delegates alike. Position papers, although strongly recommended, are not required. However, delegates who wish to be considered for an award must submit their position papers by Sunday, January 8, 2017, at 11:59 pm. More information about position papers will be found on page 3 of each Background Guide.

Sasha Twardowski | Director

Sasha is a grade 12 student attending St. George’s School, and he is delighted to be serving as the Director of World Bank at VMUN 2017. Ever since joining the world of MUN, Sasha’s passion for international relations and diplomacy has grown tremendously. As a veteran of over 15 conferences, Sasha can undoubtedly say that MUN is one of the most rewarding experiences of high school. Outside of MUN, Sasha enjoys playing and coaching tennis, reading up on the news, shooting photography, acting, and participating in several political campaigns. At VMUN 2017, Sasha is hoping to create an inclusive, engaging and educational atmosphere that accurately reflects the purpose of Model United Nations.


Angie Sun | Chair

Angie Sun is a Senior at Crofton House School. Ever since her first encounterance with Model United Nations in grade 10, she has enjoyed and cherished every moment surrounded by the extraordinary participants, level of professionalism, as well as memorable experiences that MUN had provided. Besides Model United Nations, Angie can be found catching herself binge watching Netflix season after season, diving for the veebs, eating non-stop or simply sitting on the porch and enjoying a good read. Angie is more than honoured to be serving VMUN 2017 as Chair of World Bank and looks forward to working with her fellow Director and Assistant Director in hopes to make it the best committee experience for her delegates.


Alan Chen | Assistant Director

Under an invitation by a friend, Alan attended his first MUN conference in 2015, not knowing that MUN would soon become a big part of his high school life. Currently in Grade 11, Alan is interested in global politics, international economics, and social issues. He extends his passions not only to MUN, but also to various debate tournaments, where he competes both locally and internationally. When not busy with his academics, Alan can be found reading the Economist, exploring different cafes in downtown, cosplaying at the annual Anime Revolution and walking his shiba-inu on UBC campus. Alan is very excited for what VMUN 2017 encompasses and looks forward to meeting all the delegates in January.
