Belt and Road Forum

The Belt and Road Forum is an international economic and political forum representing the government interests of 29 states. Established in May of 2017 in Beijing, China, the first forum was created with a variety of objectives: to promote global trade and economic growth, to further connect Southeast Asia, Europe, and Africa by means of cooperation agreements and major projects, to expand global Chinese investment, and many more. The Belt and Road Forum’s mandate is to establish China as the missing link in intercontinental cooperation and to ultimately create one harmonious coexistence.

This committee is designed for both beginners and experienced delegates alike. Position papers, although strongly recommended, are not required. However, delegates who wish to be considered for an award must submit their position papers by February 7th, 2020, at 23:59. More information about position papers will be found on page 3 of the Background Guide.

Jackie Dong

Jackie Dong | Director

Jackie is currently a senior at St. George’s School. He is honoured to serve as the director of Belt and Road Forum at VMUN 2020 and is excited to meet all the delegates. Ever since his first conference in grade 7, Jackie has fallen in love with the powerful deliberations made by delegates that come from each corner of the world. In his spare time, Jackie can be found engaged in a variety of pursuits beside MUN, ranging from baking, reading, and debating, volunteering, as well as hanging out with friends. Jackie looks forward to an unforgettable weekend and wishes that VMUN 2020 be great for all.

Max Chetner

Max Chetner | Chair

As a senior attending St. George’s School, Max is super excited to be attending VMUN as chair of the Belt and Road Forum. Max has been involved in Model UN since grade 8 and has been very lucky to have attended over ten conferences throughout his past four years in high school. MUN has created many of Max’s most cherished high-school memories, in which he has been able to broaden his knowledge of international affairs and gain valuable public speaking skills while having lots of fun. In his free time, Max enjoys spending his time playing hockey and rugby, skiing in Whistler, hanging out with friends and family, travelling, and volunteering with various organizations. Max is ecstatic to be serving as your chair of the Belt and Road Forum and hopes to create a truly memorable experience for all of his delegates.

Emma-Jane Burns

Emma-Jane Burns | Assistant Director

Emma-Jane is delighted to serve as the Assistant Director of the Belt and Road Forum for the 2020 iteration of VMUN. Currently a sophomore at York House, Emma has been captivated by Model UN and debate since 2016. Emma-Jane likes to challenge set ideas and opinions, engage with different people, and see the world from many perspectives. Above all, Emma constantly loves to question her own opinions, be flexible, and learn something new from others. Emma-Jane encourages delegates to engage in successful and respectful discourse at VMUN 2020. In her spare time, Emma can be caught petting her cat, drinking iced tea, or hanging out by the beach (no matter the season).
